Have you ever wanted to achieve a straighter smile? If so, Dr. Michelle Metcalf may recommend Invisalign® or Clear Correct to help you reach your goals for your smile’s appearance. Invisalign and Clear Correct are modern orthodontic treatment systems that use nearly invisible plastic aligners to gently straighten your teeth.
How do clear braces work?
Clear braces are a great choice for our patients who are searching for a more discreet orthodontic treatment option. Rather than using metal brackets and wires like traditional braces, clear braces use a series of custom-made, plastic aligners to straighten your smile. Each set of aligners is designed to make small changes to the alignment of the teeth by applying pressure to encourage movement.
As you switch sets of aligners about every two weeks, your teeth will be gradually guided to their proper positions. You will also visit our office on a regular basis during treatment to make certain that your smile is progressing as planned.
In addition to being discreet, Invisalign and Clear Correct aligners are very comfortable because they are custom made from smooth, thin plastic. The aligners are removable, which allows you to easily remove them as needed in order to eat, brush, and floss.
Are clear braces right for me?
In general, clear braces can be used to treat the same orthodontic issues that are normally treated with braces. Our dentists may recommend clear braces to correct:
- Crowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Gapped and spaced teeth
- Certain problems with the bite, such as an overbite, open bite, under-bite, or cross-bite
This treatment is often a good choice for adult patients and others who are interested in a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment. It is recommended the aligners be worn at least 22 hours per day, which can sometimes be a challenge for younger patients.
What can I expect from Smiles Dental?
During your initial visit, we will determine whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign or Clear Correct. Your next visit will then be to take impressions of your mouth and teeth to build your custom aligners and treatment plan. After receiving your treatment plan, the next step is to accept it and begin treatment!
Once your treatment plan is accepted, our dentist will apply clear, composite “buttons” to a few of your teeth to help provide “friction” and ensure the teeth move correctly. After this, your first set of aligners will be fitted and you’ll be on your way to a straighter, more confident smile!
Does insurance cover clear braces?
This depends on your dental plan, but in most cases clear braces can be applied to your deductible. Our team will work with your insurance to verify your benefits so you know what can be used toward treatment and what your out of pocket costs might be.
If you are low on dental benefits or don’t currently have dental coverage, our office offers in-house financing to help cover your out of pocket costs. Visit our Financial Options page for more details and to apply for pre-approval.
